Nancy Fredrickson
Former Goddard Educator and Coach
Nancy Fredrickson's 40-year career as an educator and coach at Goddard Public Schools has left an indelible mark on countless students, colleagues, and the community. Nancy shares, “My dedication to God and His faithfulness has given me joy throughout my career.”
Nancy was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, and raised in Wichita, Kansas. Her academic pursuits led her to Miltonvale Wesleyan College, Southern Nazarene University, and eventually Wichita State University, where she earned her Master's degree in Communications.
Nancy began her teaching career at Goddard Public Schools after being recommended by Rick Kilmer. She initially taught 6th-grade speech but soon expanded her teaching repertoire to include middle school drama and art. Over the years, she became affectionately known as "Ms. Fred" by her students, who she guided through middle school with unwavering dedication. Her ability to forge strong, lasting relationships with her students was one of her most remarkable qualities. Many of her students were fortunate enough to have her as a teacher for four consecutive years, from 6th through 9th grade, fostering a bond that has endured long after they left her classroom.
Nancy’s impact extended beyond the classroom. She coached girls’ basketball for 12 years, volleyball for one year, and track for 30 years, further connecting with her students through athletics. Her commitment to her students didn’t end when the school bell rang; she often attended their extracurricular activities, supporting them in all their endeavors. Nancy was also known for preserving and returning her students' middle school artwork years later, a testament to the deep care she had for them.
In 2002, Nancy was honored with a Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholarship, which allowed her to travel to Japan and immerse herself in Japanese culture and education. This experience enriched her teaching, bringing a global perspective to her classroom. She shared her knowledge of Japanese culture, drama, and art with her students, creating a culturally dynamic learning environment.
Nancy’s contributions to Goddard Public Schools were recognized by her peers, students, and the wider community. Her mentoring of new teachers ensured that her legacy of fostering strong student-teacher relationships would continue for generations.
Even in retirement, Nancy remained connected with her former students, attending their class reunions and cherishing the friendships that had blossomed over the years. Her dedication, passion, and love for her students have left a lasting legacy, making her a true exemplar of educational excellence.
