Max and Deb Ogden

Goddard High School Class of 1969 and 1971

Max and Deb (Salsgiver) Ogden have played a pivotal role in shaping the success and legacy of Converting Technologies Inc., known as Contech, a cornerstone business in Goddard, Kansas.

Max and Deb are uniquely connected to Goddard where both the Ogden and Salsgiver families recognize multi-generational Goddard alumni and family members who served the District; Max’s father drove a school bus and Deb’s mother was employed as a speech therapist.

From a Goddard beginning, the Contech story is one of innovation and perseverance, supported by Max and Deb’s unwavering commitment to their community, family, and faith.

The roots of Contech trace back to 1961, when Deb’s father, George Salsgiver, founded Mid America Marking Inc., a company that revolutionized the vinyl decal and graphic markings industry. George's company quickly became a leader in thermal die-cutting techniques, serving major corporations such as 3M. Max, a Goddard High School graduate, began his journey with the company in 1970, working his way up from sweeping floors to advancing into sales and engineering.

In 1978, the company expanded into the thermal equipment business, developing cutting-edge technology that fueled its growth. Following George Salsgiver's passing in 1985, Max and Deb, along with George’s sons, David and Mike, took on the responsibility of continuing the family business. Under their leadership, the company evolved into Converting Technologies Inc., which specializes in the design and manufacture of customized machinery for a wide range of industries.

Max and Deb’s vision and innovation led Contech to new heights, building over 4,000 custom machines that serve clients worldwide, including NASA, Boeing, and Nike. Their motto, "If you can dream it, we can design it," reflects their dedication to solving their customers' toughest challenges with precision and reliability.

Despite facing personal and professional challenges, including the untimely deaths of David and Mike Salsgiver, Max and Deb remained steadfast in their commitment to Contech. They expanded the company’s focus to include advanced technology equipment, ensuring its continued success and impact on the global market.

Max and Deb are known not only for their business acumen but also for their kindness, loyalty, and generosity. They have created a positive, family-oriented work environment at Contech, where many employees have enjoyed long-term careers. Their deep faith and strong moral values have guided them through difficult times, and they are dedicated to giving back to their community.

As a couple, Max and Deb have been partners in marriage and business for over 50 years, exemplifying perseverance, humility, and a shared commitment to helping others. Deb’s advice to students reflects their philosophy: "Once you start something, don’t look back, and keep working at it until you achieve your goal or dream."

The Ogdens’ legacy is not only the successful company they have built but also the lives they have touched and the community they have strengthened. As Deb poignantly reflects, "I like Goddard. It’s a place that I love, and I’m just glad we got to help people." Their nomination to the Goddard Education Foundation Hall of Fame is a testament to their enduring impact on Goddard and beyond.
